Instructor: Lisa Golden Schroeder
Class Meeting: Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time.

This four-week course takes you one step farther on the road to becoming an accomplished food stylist. Through in-depth written lessons, video tutorials, and an interactive student gallery, learn the essentials of what you must know each day you step into the studio.

Once you understand the role of a food stylist as part of a commercial photography team, there are basic techniques and knowledge you must know to organize and execute common food photography jobs. What needs to happen when you get that job call? What questions do you need to ask, how do you begin planning and organizing what you must bring to the studio or job location?

In this class you’ll gain an insider’s view on the tools you most need, valuable insights into pre-production planning, tips for grocery shopping like a professional, and advice on gathering basic props. Under the expert guidance of veteran food stylist Lisa Golden Schroeder, learn how to:
• Keep greens and herbs fresh and lively, along with other fresh produce
• Build a beautiful salad
• Create thirst-quenching beverages in a pinch
• Make a juicy, perfectly grilled chicken breast
• Cook a sizzling steak or pork chop
• Build a better burger or sandwich
• Roast a golden crisp bird, from game hens to the iconic Thanksgiving turkey
• Play with side dishes: rice, pasta, potatoes
• Thicken and thin both sweet and savory sauces; keeping them glossy
• Keep foods fresh under camera

Each week you will receive a written lesson with assignments that will allow you to practice specific techniques. You’ll also be given password-protected access to view video tutorials that will illustrate the finer points of what you need to learn. Once you complete assignments you will upload them to your album in the student gallery for review.

The course concludes with an optional teleconference call, which is a great opportunity to communicate with your class and instructor.

"It has been tremendous to learn from such a skilled professional. The videos were particularly helpful as a visual learning aid and a personal way to connect with you, Lisa, although only virtually." - Kara Butterfield, student

How the Course Works
Everyday Food Styling is completely online so you can learn on your own schedule. You can read and study the lessons at your own pace, on your own schedule. Sometime during that week you can complete your assignments and upload them to the class Gallery, which is a site open only to online students and the instructor.

Every Tuesday during the session the instructor emails you a PDF of that week's lesson. It is filled with images and lots of information about Food Styling. You can print it out or read it online. You will also receive extra articles that will inform you about the profession of food styling.

There will be assignments to complete which can be uploaded to our Gallery where you can post your images and text. The instructor will add comments and observations, plus you can view the other students' work. Working at your own pace, you’ll benefit as much as you want to from the class.

Course concludes with a Class Meeting giving you an opportunity to communicate with fellow students and instructor. Instructor will review and evaluate your work and that of other students. Ask your instructor questions and discuss the next step of your career. Plus you'll have a chance to meet and network with fellow students. Class Meeting: Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 12:00 noon U.S. Eastern Standard Time.
